Balew shines in Lausanne and wins the 5000m race in the Diamond League

Bahraini athlete Birhanu Balew continued his impressive run on the world stage, winning the men's 5000m race at the Lausanne Diamond League 2026 meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Balew secured a hard-fought and exciting victory, finishing the race in 12:57.55 minutes, outperforming a field of top long-distance runners.

American Parker Wolff came in second with a time of 12:58.20 minutes, while his compatriot Nico Young finished third in 12:58.33 minutes, in a race that saw fierce competition until the final stages.

This achievement reflects Balew's outstanding performance this season and underscores the strong presence of Bahraini athletics at major international events, as he once again raised the Bahraini flag on the podium at one of the most prestigious Diamond League meetings.
