Riffa - Bahrain Athletics Federation:

Olympic champion runner Winifred Yafi has added a new achievement to the Bahraini athletics record, winning the first-ever one-mile steeplechase race included in the Brussels Diamond League meeting, completing the distance in 4:40.13.

The mile steeplechase is a rare event in the world of athletics, and was added to the Brussels meeting program this year to add a touch of distinction and innovation to the championship.

Yafie stole the spotlight with her outstanding abilities and determination to achieve the best, confirming Bahrain's position as a prominent force in middle- and long-distance competitions worldwide.

Yafie outperformed both American runner Ellis, who finished second in 4:46.74, and German runner Gorth, who finished third in 4:51.87. “I am extremely happy with this historic achievement,” said champion Winifred Yaffe after her victory. “Winning my first Diamond League one-mile steeplechase means a lot to me. I felt very excited throughout the race and tried to perform to the best of my ability to raise Bahrain’s profile. This victory gives me even more motivation to continue working hard and preparing for upcoming events, and I dedicate it to my country and everyone who has supported me throughout my journey.”
