Riffa – Bahrain Athletics Federation:

The Bahrain Athletics Federation has approved the roster of the national men's and women's teams that will participate in the 20th edition of the World Championships, which will be held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, from September 13 to 21. Approximately 2,000 athletes representing 200 countries will participate.

The women's team roster includes Olympic champion Winifred Yaffie, the 3,000m steeplechase gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, who set a new Olympic record with a time of 8:52.76 minutes, and the World Championship gold medalist in the same event at the 2023 Budapest Games with a time of 8:54.29 minutes.

Olympic champion Salwa Eid Nasser remains one of the top contenders to secure a podium finish in the women's 400m at the World Championships, having finished second at the Paris Olympics with a time of 48.53 seconds. She is also the world champion in the 2019 Doha edition with a time of 48.14 seconds, and recently won the 2025 Diamond League title in the same race after winning first place at the Zurich meeting with a time of 48.70 seconds. Adeko Olakeme is one of the most prominent runners in the women's 400m hurdles in Asia, having won first place at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games with a time of 55.77 seconds and winning the 2015 Asian Championships with a time of 54.31 seconds. Olakeme became the world's number one 400m hurdles champion in 2015 after setting a new best of 54.31 seconds at the Asian Championships. An injury sustained during a warm-up prevented her from competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, despite her participation with the national team.

The women's team also includes runner Neli, who will compete in the women's 800m, while the women's marathon team includes Jumba, Shitai, and Taigist.

One runner, Berhanu Belaw, will compete in the 5,000m at the World Championships.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is a strong candidate to win medals at the World Athletics Championships, given its outstanding talent at the continental, global, and Olympic levels.
